Rodent ingress investigations across the North East of England

DRAINRAT carries out targeted drainage investigations for rodent ingress right across the North East. We work discreetly in towns and cities from Northumberland to Teesside.

  • Wide regional coverage

We carry out drainage investigations in towns and cities right across the North East, not just close to our base in Blyth, travelling further out to rural and coastal areas too.

  • Local drainage knowledge

Coastal, urban and rural drainage systems all differ, and we know how networks across the North East are typically laid out, from terraces to farmhouses.

  • One team, all areas

Every investigation across the region is carried out by the same DRAINRAT team, using the same targeted approach throughout, wherever you're based.

Specialist drainage investigations across the North East

DRAINRAT provides specialist drainage investigations for rodent ingress throughout the North East of England, working from our base in Blyth, Northumberland. Every job focuses on the same objective: finding the exact point where rats are entering a property through the drainage system, rather than guessing at the cause. We use targeted CCTV inspection to locate defects, damaged pipework and access points that general pest control treatments cannot reach, then provide a clear, written report explaining what we found and what needs to happen next. Whether you are a homeowner dealing with a recurring problem, a landlord managing a rental property, or a pest control professional who suspects drainage is involved, we bring the same discreet, methodical approach to every investigation we carry out across the region.

Newcastle, Gateshead and Tyne and Wear

Tyne and Wear is one of our most requested areas, and we regularly carry out drainage investigations across Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Washington, South Shields, North Shields and Whitley Bay. This part of the region combines dense residential streets, older drainage systems and a high concentration of shared and multi-let properties, all of which can create conditions for rats to move between drains and buildings unnoticed. We work closely with landlords, letting agents and pest control companies across Tyne and Wear who need a second opinion once standard treatments have not resolved a recurring infestation. Our discreet, unmarked vehicles mean investigations can be carried out without drawing attention, which matters for tenanted properties, shared housing and busy commercial premises alike.

Sunderland, Durham and Wearside

Further south, we cover Sunderland, Durham, Chester-le-Street and Consett, an area that spans city centre streets, university housing and semi-rural properties along the Wear valley. Older drainage networks are common throughout Wearside, and ageing or poorly maintained pipework is often where rodent ingress begins. Our investigations here focus on identifying whether damaged, cracked or poorly connected drains are giving rats access to a property, rather than assuming the cause without evidence. We work with homeowners, housing providers and commercial property teams across the area, providing a structured report that sets out exactly what we found and the remedial work required, if any, to close off the entry point for good. Follow-up support is available once repairs are complete, so the problem does not return.

Northumberland and the Northumberland coast

We are based in Blyth, so Northumberland is where DRAINRAT began, and we continue to carry out regular investigations across Blyth, Ashington, Morpeth and Hexham, as well as the surrounding coastal and rural communities. Properties in this area range from coastal terraces to more isolated rural homes, each with different drainage layouts and different rodent access risks. Rural and semi-rural drainage systems can be harder to inspect without local knowledge of how they are typically laid out, which is where our experience across Northumberland makes a genuine difference. We work with homeowners and pest control professionals throughout the county who need a specialist drainage investigation rather than a general pest control visit, and every job uses the same targeted CCTV approach, wherever in the county it takes place.

Teesside, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough

To the south of our usual working area, we also cover Teesside, including Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. This part of the region includes a mix of established residential streets and larger commercial and industrial sites, both of which can present drainage-related rodent ingress issues that general pest control treatments struggle to resolve on their own. We work with commercial property teams and local authorities across Teesside who need investigations carried out with minimal disruption to tenants, staff or the public. As with every area we cover, our approach stays the same: a targeted, evidence-based drainage investigation that identifies the true point of entry, followed by a clear report and, where needed, practical remedial recommendations to close the problem down for good.
